Late afternoon yesterday and my new fibre box 'landline' started ringing.

I answered (which is rare - I never answer the mobile). Bouygues Telecom here.
There is a problem with your line.

xM was standing next to me, and as it's her line I ed the call to her.
I went to look outside at the front of the house where the connection box lives
as I noticed a couple of days ago that it was swinging in the breeze due to the insulation workers removing it from the wall.

I reported back to xM who had now sat the phone back on the table with the line left open.
"No it's not just us, it's the whole department".

Sounded strange.
'Are they going to phone everyone in Les Vosges? Are you sure it's Bouygues?'

xM queried it with the lady who promised to send an email.
Meanwhile the phone sat connected for an hour....

Cue today. I asked what the outcome was and was told 'nothing really, she never sent an email'.

'Go and check your ' and sure enough there is a call charge listed for a 64€ call.

ed Bouygues and they've promised to remove the charge... we'll see.
They said they never anyone by telephone, which is a little bizarre for a telephone company,
but perhaps shows where we've already reached in .

Not sure how they've done it as we never returned their call, but I presume they rely on people not checking their bills
and then they get a share from the number provider.

Hadn't heard of this one, but apparently it's been happening since at least Aug 2023, so I presume that means
that the providers don't know how to stop it.

Back to the old tactic of just letting it ring.....

Junior will be updated when he returns from school.

Since January 2023, companies in who emit unsollicited commercial phonecalls are obliged to use landlines with numbers beginning with the following codes: 0162, 0163, 0270, 0271, 0377, 0424, 0425, 0568, 0569, 0948 & 0949.

A stricter law was adopted last Wednesday which should put an end to almost all unwanted prospection:

Unfortunately does not affect scams or calls from other countries :(

Yeah it was Wednesday when I received not only my "daily" scam call (identified by my trusty phone so I could just skip it and then block the number) but a second one, coming from an 07 number - a mobile number which is NOT supposed to be used for cold calls at all. Those calls all start with someone saying that they know I have called them multiple times so far and they are "finally" getting back to me with information about government assistance for whatever home improvement they are hawking. Those are hung up on, and the number blocked, with that information going to the app that identifies potential scam calls.

Oh yes, that's familiar!
I have my phone permanently on silent except when I'm expecting a call that I want to take. Some days it shows 5 or 6 missed calls and they'll all be spam because people I know, know that I only answer WhatsApp calls.

What I have also noticed is, I have a Lebara sim that I only use for mobile internet, and even that gets calls now and again. I have never ever given anyone that number. I don't even know the number myself. Do they just guess numbers, do they buy them from the service provider, how do they get them?

Yes, let it ring. If they want to you they will leave a message.

The last time I answered a call from a scammer, I was expecting an important call and thus I answered. Once it was clear it was a scam, I just started heavy breathing; the problem was that I was waiting at a checkout in a supermarket.

We've got it nailed. We use a call blocker on the landline. It doesn't ring at all unless the caller identifies themself or is on our White list of s. Anything up to a dozen calls a day are blocked.
The mobile is only ever switched on if we are expecting a security code but still lists a few calls that we know nothing about.

There is now a trend of spoofing the telephone numbers from where the call originates.
Most of these are old hat in the UK and well known. But we can still get sucked in when we're busy.
is slowly catching up and will be rich pickings - folk are so trusting around here that half of them leave their keys in the car's ignition
outside their home. When we go to the supermarket xM always leaves her handbag on the bag seat!

I just received this text from my bank yesterday :

White

It arrived 3 days after the bank phoned me (unanswered) to remind me that I haven't provided a ton of personal info onto their app.
Oh dear, must have forgotten...

That's the only reason I keep my mobile. No one phones unless they are wanting money. 😪

Good to know we are behind the curve. :)

The only spam comes on our mobiles; the landline only rings every 2-weeks or so, a bit of a shock when it does and then it’s OH’s aunt.

Knock on the door this evening.

'Internet man'. Couldn't understand what he was saying; something on the lines of 'our technician will be in the area,
would you like him to move your 'internet box' a bit higher'.

No thanks. 😅
