I'm currently living in Toronto, Canada and am looking to move to southern Chile to start a new career in conservation management and have therefore applied for a temporary visa under the rentista category. On the SMN portal, my application has been in the "analysis" stage for over 6 weeks, however I am unable to find information on how long the application process is expected to take. As most websites (including those of Chilean consulates!) haven't updated their information yet after the immigration law changed in 2022, I have currently no indication whatsoever how long it may take.

If anyone on this forum has applied for a temporary visa under the new immigration online system, I'm curious to hear how long it took for the application to be analysed and moved to the next "resolution" stage.

cheers,
Fleur

A few questions...do you already have the job in hand with a contract... and moving there to get started in south of Chile next step? If so then you may be applying for the wrong visa?

The thing is that rentista previous to this latest change in the system in Chile (unless it became something completely different) and also elsewhere in Latin America ...is for a person who has assets that can provide them with money without the need to work/ have a job. For example a person with stocks that pays large dividends, bonds that payout, annuities or real estate that pays them monthly rental etc.

This is an alternative to the pensionado (retired person) that gets a regular monthly pension from either a government or a private organization /business where they worked previous to retiring. One has to show regular occurring "income" off it from their home country or place of business. For example Social Security if from States in the case of government.

Previous to this latest istration they basically used the same format/forms.

Perhaps you should be applying under a different category for work such as under the category of professional/technical persons?

I would be curious to know what has happened with your situation in the interim since your posting of March. Because I have heard about many people having issues with this new immigration system here in Chile. Since everyone I know here already went thru the old system...the only way to know how it is going is on chats like this:)

If you have met the requirements for the correct visa that applies to you and your situation...and had no reply. I would suggest ing a lawyer for help navigating this latest system/ process they are using. Hope this helps. Cheers.
