In all my years I've never known anyone to go to America for a "casino break" or mention Atlantic City so I wouldn't expect it to be a popular place for brits only those with a particular ion.

(Edited)
I certainly would not be going to the USA for a cultural uplifting experience, as they don't have one, and any culture they do claim to have came from Europe anyway. I been to the states twice and there are far more interesting countries to visit! Their diet, lifestyle, values, politics and geopolitical interference all suck! I do not plan on going back there!

Spain on the other has lots to offer!

No comparison really, in my mind!

Maybe get out and meet more people?

I worked in Montana and Texas two very different States in of both social attitude and geography and I made friends two of whom have been to stay with me in Spain (and love it). Not all Americans are fat, uneducated, uncouth, gun totting right wing idiots. I enjoyed Montana very much, its a big State with a very small population but I go where the money pays me.

Spain is my home base, I don't work here...I couldn't afford the drop in pay 😉

I've visited most areas of Spain (because I love Spain) and most of Europe.

I went to Daytona bike week in Florida in 2006 and 2008 for 2 weeks each time, hired a big HD and toured the local areas. The camaraderie between Bikers at Daytona is unrivalled. I don’t feel the need to visit anywhere else in the USA though.

So yes I've had a very varied experience throughout my life and met many different people thanks.

Florida is not my favorite State to be honest, I'm into mountains and Florida is just flat, I'm not a beach fan either hence my home in Spain is up in the hills. I'm very happy here, I'll never live in the UK again but...there is a chance New Zealand is where I'll really put my roots down, only time will tell.

Ridiculous.

I am an American who has been in England at least ten times. I have found the English people very nice and open to me as an American and feel England to be a very pleasant country. I realize the English people in this forum are a very small subset of English people in general. Nevertheless, I am appalled by the anti-American sentiment on this board. However, I will never make a generalization about England by the few closed minded people on this board.

I know American policy is not perfect; however, American policy which my father (who was German immigrant to the USA) participated in during active duty during WW2 helped save you from not having German as your native language. Think about it!

"American policy is not perfect", that would be the understatement of the century!

The only reason the USA entered WW2 was the direct attack on Pearl Harbor.
So, the USA wasn't doing the rest of the allies a favour it simply went on the attack, after it was attacked itself.
Otherwise, the USA would have sat back and left Europe to its fate.

Also, that argument about the USA bailing out Europe in WW2, is well past its sell by date!

is this another foreign policy short-coming-

The U.S. government is the single-largest aid donor in the world, according to the United Nations, ing for more than 40% of all humanitarian aid the UN tracked in 2024.

Hitler was worried about the US entering the European theater. He prodded Hirohito to attack the US thinking that the US would be occupied by the Pacific front. The idea by Hitler back-fired and we fought on both fronts. Do you really think if the US never entered WW2, England would never have been over-run in operation sealion? You would be speaking German!

The US only entered forced via Pearl Harbor, happy to sit on hands until then. They later schemed on how to insinuate itself into world domination. Bretton-Woods is a good example.

Two sides to every story timwip.
Perhaps IF America had entered into the fray , with manpower sooner, instead of concentrating on sending desperately needed equipment via "lease lend" a debt the UK have only recently repaid, Hitler may have been defeated earlier.
Whatever, we have all seen the Hollywood blockbusters on how America singlehandedly saved us all, and now 80 years later, we need to move on.
I have been to USA, have friends and family there. Love the place and people even though like every other country it has its faults which people should be permitted to politely address.
