Just thought I'd share some info about a few nights out I've had over the past week.

Firstly "Mandra" in Oroklini (monday night). We just went for a drink, but they had a buffet and singer. It was 14 euro per person. All the food you can eat and a great singer "Ross" keeping everyone entertained. Drinks were reasonably priced, and the atmosphere was great!

Secondly, "Corfu resturant" again in Oroklini(Saturday Night). Excellent food, I can definately recommend the Stifado (I've had it twice now) and the mixed grill. Drinks are priced Ok and the greek entertainment was great too. Staff are friendly with Andreas and his son waiting the tables. Make sure you book if you fancy trying it over the weekend as it gets packed!!

Thirdly, Barbella (Dhekalia Road) (wednesday & Friday). This is a bar which used to be mostly for Cypriots. Now under new management and with great english staff. the place seems to be getting better. Wednesday was Karaoke and disco, (no i didnt sing) with plenty of singers (old and young - one guy was 70+) and even a firebreather at one point! Drinks were all 3 euro (which was great!)
Friday was a club night and I loved the music that night. The place had around
100 + people at one point and everyone (including myself) having a good time.
Will definately be visiting all 3 again next week!!

Yialos taverna at Coral Bay, right on the sea front. Its been extended and updated with a great round pergola. Fabulous views, fantastic views of sunsets.
No menu, you just get whats on that day. Great food, very good prices and wonderful setting.

For a more classy meal Sienna on the Paphos to Coral bay road, next to Helios hotel.
A big menu, very good quality food but be prepared to pay more there. Well worth it though.

For the best steaks ever go to La Vigna Trattoria in Coral Bay.
I had a steak there a couple of nights ago that was without a doubt the best I have had since coming to Cyprus. Melted in the mouth and soo tasty. It was black aberdeen rib eye. Yummy. And of course being a trattoria they do all the usual Italian foods.

Best Places to Eat out

Hi Veronica, we have friends just returned from Cyprus and they mentioned 'La Vigna Trattoria and the best steak ever, so we'll definately give it a try in November. Any thoughts on places away from the main Pafos Harbour area as apparently prices have gone up? Regards Chris

For anyone on the East coast -

Kapparis can be a bit hit and miss but we like Mello bar,

they have live music a few nights a week, saturdays are especially good and the drinks are very reasonable. Wine is only €2 a glass and they have proper strongbow on draught (not bulmers as it is in many places). A very chilled out, upmarket looking bar, with comfy chairs and sofas.

We had some very nice food in some of the places already mentioned in the Coral bay area.:)

On a cheaper scale :spit: in the Paphos area, but still great food, El o on the main drag in Chlorakas. Wi Fi available. We visited here every second day during our stay.
If you have a car, a place called Grannies, on the Polis road ( left hand side ) heading out of Paphos up the hill towards Tsada. Cheap with a cafe feel, but with great English and local dishes on the menu. Very relaxing.

We always enjoy Koh-i-Noor for Indian in Kato Paphos and also the Almond Tree in Kato Paphos. I haven't seen those mentioned. I had a very bad experience at 7 St. George's - it was my first and last time. Everyone else does really seem to love it though. For meze's we like Yiannis Taverna in Kathikas - it is a bit far but very relaxing and a bit cooler in the summer.

Chris if you stay away from the harbour and sea front areas and stick to the Tombs of the kings there are plenty of places which serve decent food and are far less pricy than the harbour.
Try Raffles for a decent 3 course meal at very reasonable prices. It is on the corner at the traffic lights near the Phuket Thai and chinese restaurant.

We find that the RENDEZVOUS restaurant by the Avanti Hotel entrance superb value. The chef, Michael, is the owner and trained in the USA. Steaks are good. In the winter he has a huge raised fire in the centre. Thoroughly recommend it.

Thank you Veronica, I wasn't sure where to put it. The address is just the Old Town Kakopetria, It is right at the top of the old town, the Linos tavern & Hotel the last but one 'house' on the right. It is just called the Argentinian Steak House. The chef, Victor is Argentinian.

I've found a few good places..

1) Voreas (written as Bopeas in Greek) in Oroklini. They do a really good Meze. You will need to book at weekends on in holiday times. They have won awards for their authentic Cypriot cuisine. Personally I prefer Voreas to the Corfu tavern

2) Cafe Aman in Anafotida, no menu as such. Great homecooked Meze and good Kelftiko (Thursday only). Prices are a little unpredictable.... I've never seen a pricelist.

3) The Captain's Table in ZIgi. Great fish restaurant with a super fish Meze... pricey but delicious.

4) The Chicken Shack just near the entrance to the SBA at Ayios Niklaos (Ay Nik). Basic decor but top class food.

5) The is a little shack in Oroklini on the right on the road from the Corfu Tavern just past the entrance to the infant school but before the Grada. They are only open on Friday and Saturday evenings. They do the best kebab I have tasted.

6) The Green Chariot beside the Grand Mosque in Larnaca. Its a little cafe, off the beaten track and looks like a place you would avoid, however the food is freshly cooked and the sheftalia is the best I've eaten. Its a place all the locals go to so you know it must be good!

I tend to venture 'inland ' and can recommend the Taverna in Kallepia ( 10Euros ) good quality - and run by Chris a High Ranking Police Officer ( on my last trip with 3 friends we rather over did the Red Wine and were discussing " who should Drive " ..... He must of overheard and gave us all a free large Brandy :)
Off the beaten track ..... Letympou has a new Taverna that i like ....and Episcope Village does a good Meze for € 10 on a friday nite .... quiet ' shop' with 'no frills ' but you watch the local charecters get up and sing/dance :) ......the 'free' Wine tended to help :)

I do like the Art Cafe in Polis for quiet lunches ( opp Police Station )

Please keep this Thread going as i look forward to visiting more Venues in the Pafos region !

Nights out in Cyprus

I lived in Paphos for 2 years and enjoyed plenty of nights out on Bar street, But I would go upto Oroklini some weekends to stay with my Uncle who is in the Army and is based at Dhekalia Garrison, We go down the strip and go in a Bar called Oasis which does Karaoke and all the squaddies go in and let their hair down, Anyone who has been in they would have heard me belt out abit of Shaggy :) Then everyone would end up in a club called Starlight which is a mix of Locals, Holiday makers and squaddies it does Karaoke then Dance tunes rest of the night I really enjoy it, there is also a Butty van that parks near by till the early hours so you can buy a cyprus sandwich to take back home and eat * * HEAVEN * *

The only thing that is letting Cyprus down at the moment is the Euro because some of the prices for Drinks and also a meal can really add up especially if you have a family and are on holiday?

Nice places

Tried the Polita on a Monday Night ? itson the corner by Pafos Park and 2 amazing Greek Guitarists knock out great Hellenic Numbers .. plus Cat Stevens ( OOPs Youslf Islam ) ... his Dad came from Tala !

Then .. Chis"s Taverna in Kallepia ( He was Assistant Chief of Police till recently ... AND .. somehow Guests never get stopped driving home ???? Very odd Huh ? )

In Letybo ... New Taverna opposite Brooksies ........ They have regular Musicians on SAt Nights .... and locals end up dancing in the Street till the early hours !

Art Cafe in Polis i do like !for a nice Lunch !

If you can tear yourself away from the seas and take a drive up the Troudos mountains, stop at the lovely village of LANIA and go to the Chestnut tree bar run by Christo & Diane. Very lovely couple, serving drinks & snacks and Christo will be happy to give you a free glass of Comandaria or Zivania, made locally. Also in the back of the bar is a small gift shop. And if that was not enough, there are two large screen tv's. One inside and one outside under the grapevine cealing to watch the world cup or whatever you like.
This bar welcomes local Cypriots and ex pats who make up almost 50% of the village.
Drink prices are very reasonable and snacks i.e. hot chicken sandwich with salad is made fresh with daily fresh ingredients.
If you are in that kind of mood ask Christo to make you a brandy sour, or my fav a margurita, he was not one of Limassol's best barmen for many years for nothing!!
Enjoy

Not to forget "The Village Tavern" in Pyla Village, great food, great hosts Theo and Denise always a smile and good welcome, good prices and lots of Ex-pat entertainment going on every week. Singers from English to Greek (Zak is back) plate smashing, quiz nights and the very popular "Horse Race Nights" which attract a good crowd offering a chance for a flutter on the horses and you can win up to €400.00 on the last race, only €8.00 includes a fabulous buffet, can't wait for the next one on Friday 5th August
